Erect shrub, up to 1.5m tall, native to North China, South Mongolia, Japan, Korea, and Eastern Siberia; branchlets purple-brown or gray-brown, densely (var. setacea) or sparsely prickly below leaves; leaves alternate, including petiole 4-10 cm long; leaflets 7-9, margin simple and doubly serrate, oblong or broadly lanceolate, 1.5-3.5cm (var. davurica) or more (-4cm, var. glabra) long; flowers solitary, or 2 or 3 and fasciculate, sepals 5, petals 5, pink, obovate, base broadly cuneate, apex rounded; hip red, globose or ovoid, 1-1.5cm in diam. http://www.efloras.org/florataxon.aspx?flora_id=2&taxon_id=200011242
„The volatile constituents of Shi Mei (Rosa davurica Pall.) flower concrete have been investigated by a combination of chromatographic and spectroscopic methods. This essential oil possesses a characteristic plum-like and Osmanthus flower-like odour. The main constituents of the essential oil from Shi Mei flower concrete were eugenol (23.8%), benzyl alcohol (24.5%), β-ionone (7.0%), dihydro-β-ionol (3.3%), linalol (6.0%) and benzaldehyde (2.5%).“
