Phalaenopsis violacea hort. ex H. Witte - Orchidaceae - moth orchid
Epiphytic orchid, native to Sumatra, Borneo and the Malayan peninsula; leaves 3-4, oval, leathery, up to 25 cm long; flowers fragrant, waxy, star-shaped, 3cm across.
„Each scented blossom features deep pink to violet sepals and petals, with white to pale green tips. Blooming often from spring to summer, they are borne on arching stems where they open in succession. A single inflorescence typically carries 2 to 7 flowers with 2 to 3 open at any one time.“

The 'Borneo type' emits a rosy-floral scent based on linalool (49.0%), citronellol (1.0%), nerol (tr) and geraniol (43%). The 'Malaya type' is also based on linalool (27.8%), but with elemicin (26.7%), and displays an additional cinnamic note based on cinnamic alcohol (9.2%), cinnamyl acetate (3.7%), and cinnamic aldehyde (3.6%).
