Ajuga reptans L. - syn.Ajuga repens Host. - Lamiaceae
common bugle, blue bugle, bugleweed, Kriechender Günsel, Gurgelkraut

Perennial herb, up to 30cm high, native to Eurasia; leaves elliptic-ovate, purplish-green; flowers usually blue or violet-blue, rarely white, upper lip very short and scarcely discernible, lower lip 3-lobed.

The dried aerial parts, collected at flowering time (Herba Bugulae, Herba Consolidae mediae), is used in folk medicine as astringent to treat inflammations of mouth and larynx (hence the german name 'gurgelkraut'), and bile diseases; externally for wounds.
[Hagers Handbuch der Pharmazeutischen Praxis, Springer 2010]

The plant contains C28/C29 phytoecdysteroids with the major compounds 29-norsengosterone, 29-norcyasterone as C28, and cyasterone and ajugalactone as C29.

The phenylpropanoid glycosides verbascoside and teupolioside from A.reptans accelerated wound healing and have remarkable anti-inflammatory action.
