Flowers of O.pallens eminate an extreme non-pleasant scent somewhere in between cassis and tomcat urine, with linalool (15.1%), (E)-β-farnesene (20.5%), (E,E)-α-farnesene (8.0%) and 6-hydroxy-2,6-dimethylocta-2,7-dien-4-one (12.5%) as main components. „… but it took until the mid 1990s to reveal the olfactory secret through the identification of the expected 4-methyl-4-sulfanylpentan-2-one…“ - present in traces.
