Evergreen herbaceous perennial, native to Central America (Mexico, Honduras), popular indoor house plant; leaves up to 20cm long and 7cm broad; flower solitary, produced in a spadix, surrounded by a white spathe. "The plant does not need large amounts of light or water to survive." \\

The emanation rate of flower volatiles of S.wallisii was higher in the day than in the night. The fruity-woody scent is dominated by (E,E)-α-farnesene (90.3%) with its isomers (Z)-β-farnesene (1.4%), (E)-β-farnesene (0.2%), and (E,E)-α-farnesene (0.8%). Other components were the linalool oxides (0.6%), linalool (0.2%), methyl salicylate (0.4%), butyl butyrate (0.2%), farnesal (1.1%), santalol (0.2%), and β-costol (1.4%). \\
