Phalaenopsis violacea hort. ex H. Witte - Orchidaceae - moth orchid

Epiphytic orchid, native to Sumatra, Borneo and the Malayan peninsula; leaves 3-4, oval, leathery, up to 25 cm long; flowers fragrant, waxy, star-shaped, 3cm across.

The 'Borneo type' emits a rosy-floral scent based on linalool (49.0%), citronellol (1.0%), nerol (tr) and geraniol (43%). The 'Malaya type' is also based on linalool (27.8%), but with elemicin (26.7%), and displays an additional cinnamic note based on cinnamic alcohol (9.2%), cinnamyl acetate (3.7%), and cinnamic aldehyde (3.6%). \\
